Family Ministries:
Spouse & Family Support consists of a ministry team helping to coordinate the meeting of needs of the client’s family during the incarceration period and even upon release. This ministry includes, but is not limited to, providing transportation to prisons for Mothers Day, clothing, food, limited financial support, Christian counseling, mentoring, and support groups. FOCUS networks with several ministries (e.g., Reconciliation Ministries, Outside Kairos, A Hand Up for Women, etc) to help facilitate these needs.
Teen FOCUS is a mentoring program for “at-risk” children (some have incarcerated parents while other are referred to the program by Juvenile, church youth workers, Boys or Girls Club, etc). The program begins with a Christ-centered weekend event called “Locked-Down Outside” where the children participate in a “simulated” prison experience complete with prison uniforms and institutional officers (volunteer off-duty Knoxville Police officers). The action packed weekend contains everything from a mini boot-camp to powerful family oriented activities (using masks to portray emotions) centered around such Christian themes as forgiveness and unconditional love. Upon graduation from the LDO weekend the children participate in six months of group mentoring activities (e.g., fishing trips, football games, etc) where they are exposed to positive Christian role models in a fun, relaxed setting.
Angel Tree – FOCUS coordinates this Prison Fellowship Christmas Program – last year, almost 1000 area children experienced the joy of the Christmas season as they received gifts purchased by area churches on behalf of their mothers or fathers who were in prison. There is nothing like seeing the faces of these children as they are told how much their mother or father still loves them even though they can’t be with them for Christmas … they also learn of the love of their Heavenly Father at these special Christmas parties as they listen to Santa tell the story of the Greatest Gift of all … Contact us now to learn how you and your church can be some little one’s Christmas Angel this year!
